How the Numbers Are Estimated

Each calculator applies a standard formula or rule of thumb to the figures you enter — summed rectangular areas plus a waste allowance for fabric and carpet, length × width × thickness for foam volume and volume × density for its mass, fractions multiplied for combined window VLT, a box volume reduced by a shape factor for cargo space, and area over coverage rounded up to whole units for materials cost. These are idealizations. They assume clean rectangles, nominal coverage and density figures, and efficient cutting layouts — conditions real jobs only approximate.

Where a Result Might Not Fit Your Job

A result is more likely to miss the mark if your panels are curved or pattern-matched so material nests poorly, the foam or film differs from its nominal spec, your glass is more or less tinted than assumed, a boot is far from a clean box, or a product covers less than its label claims. In any of these cases, treat the output as a starting point to verify by measuring and testing, not a final answer.

Window Tint and Local Law

The Window Tint VLT Calculator shows the combined light transmission of a film over your glass and checks it against a minimum you type in. It does not know your local law. Legal minimum VLT varies widely by country and by U.S. state, often differs for the windshield and each set of side and rear windows, and changes over time, with exemptions for medical needs and certain vehicles. Always confirm the exact rule that applies where you drive, and measure the installed result — this tool is not legal advice.
